Review & Description
If you have some free time to go explore the world with only a backpack as your constant companion, this book was written specifically with you in mind. Even if you're curious about the backpacker way, or are a seasoned backpacker, a flashpacker convert, or looking to upgrade your trail skill set, this book is also for you. This book is a primer on:
* Pre-trip considerations (budgeting, rock bottom price attaining techniques, best guidebooks)
* Gear (what to pack and what to pick up in-country)
* How to pack your gear like a pro
* Life-saving (and trip-saving) First Aid techniques
* Etiquette (tipping guidelines, hostel etiquette)
* Staying fit while backpacking (hey, those roadside fried food stalls can really stick on you)
* Common phrases to know (I don't list the translations in every single language, but these are the most common and useful phrases)
* Personal safety considerations
Additionally, I like to point out who this book is not for. Why? I don't want people buying this book expecting something different. I just want to pass on the knowledge that I've gleaned from my 20+ years of travel; and, I'm passing on the best techniques (that I've found) to get the best deal for your trip lodging, keep your person out of jail, how to get out of a country that is in the midst of a revolution, and how to keep your belongings safe....just to name a few.
More specifically, this book does not address the following:
* Hiking (but, it does contain info on how to pack your gear)
* How to do anything like MacGyver (bonus points if you know who I'm referencing)
* And, it's not country specific
Safe travels, and have fun!
